Good evening, dapper little badgers!
Indeed winter is coming (though it seems that we may have to wait a while for the final season of Game of Thrones) and the time nears where it gets frosty and unbearably cold in Berlin. One of the key differences between say the US winter I witnessed while living in Boston and the winter in Berlin is the severity of the cold and the darkness that covers the city like a blanket. You wake up in the dark and come home in the dark leading to losing all concept of time.
“It’s so late alre–what, it’s only 4:30 pm? But it’s dark out!”
That statement sums up Berlin in the winter along with “brrrrrr” and “ugh”. However, there are things to be excited about. The holidays season brings plenty of joy and light and one of my favourite endeavours is going to the Christmas markets to and eat with the one in Potsdam, around 45 minutes from the city being one of my favourites. It’s one of our traditions to go out there for a day, check out the Museum Barberini and then hit the market till we’re too cold. Off of a side street there’s a small bar/cafe that specialises in Finnish beverages–and by beverages I mean Koskenkorva vodka and various other sinister liquors. It is a must try when in Potsdam. It’s also perfect for a crisp Autumn afternoon and I recommend going to Zanotto, a quaint Italian eatery where every dish is fresh and made with love. The owner Zanotto is a true host and personality and always worth coming by.
While the wintery cold slowly creeps up on us Carmen and I have decided to use every opportunity possible to shoot photos. YGR is more than a year old and while I could be putting more content up, I like putting stuff up when I feel it is right or when I have something quality. It makes me happy how I was able to turn my wardrobe around and really add so many quality pieces, things I actually enjoy wearing and feel good wearing. My latest purchase was another one of those moments where you just stop and think: “why hasn’t anyone bought this yet?”. My new and second Corneliani jacket is exactly the piece I am referring to because it was just too good to pass up. Somehow Corneliani comes to me in grey but this time not in flannel but in silk and wool. Super soft and beautifully constructed, as one might expect from the people at Corneliani, this jacket really has shown me that my go-to style needs to be double-breasted and I am seriously considering making my first MTM suit a double breasted. You can’t help but feel like you own whatever place you walk into when wearing a double-breasted suit.
In addition to some familiar names and brands this is the premiere of a new pocket square I received, which will be featured in a separate stand-alone post as it is worthy of its own. I can already tell you that I am a big fan and can’t wait to write about this up-and-comer, so stay tuned.
I hope you enjoy this outfit and I look forward to many more. Feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comments below or with a short e-mail. My journey in menswear has been very exciting and will hopefully continue to be so!
Love, light and style,
